Elephants sip from the Nehimba swimming pool!
Very exciting news for the Zimbabwe safari circuit – Nehimba Lodge is now part of the Imvelo Safari Lodges portfolio! Winner of the Best New Safari Property in Zimbabwe in the 2015 Safari Awards, Nehimba Lodge is situated in a game-rich 8,000 acre private concession in the north of Hwange National Park. The lodge has 7 luxurious chalets which overlook a very productive waterhole that attracts hundreds of elephants and other game. By virtue of its location in the northern part of the park, Nehimba is only a three hour drive from Victoria Falls, two hours of which is a game drive to camp! Nehimba’s also has a number of unique features and activities:
The Nehimba Seep: This is a special designated conservation area and is one of the only year-round, naturally occurring sources of surface water in the massive Hwange National Park. The seep is an ancient source of water that was once used by the San Bushmen. Today elephant and other game visit the seep to dig for minerals and water.
The Mandavu Dam: Situated in a scenic and hilly spot 15 km from Sinametella Camp, this dam is a wonderful spot for bird watching and game viewing. Take a leisurely drive to the dam in the morning and enjoy a picnic brunch on the dam’s edge, all the while enjoying the variety of life that visit this picturesque spot.
Mtoa Ruins: Approximately 2 hours from drive from camp and thought to have been built sometime in the 19th century, the ruins are located on top of a low granite kopje and offer excellent views of the surrounding countryside. Enjoy a packed lunch at this ancient site before heading back to camp in the afternoon, game viewing at the waterholes en route.
