The jaguar and the green sea turtle in Tortugero

The jaguar is one the most important wild predators of the sea turtle on the beaches of Tortuguero, Costa Rica. Recent studies show that there has been an increase in jaguar predation on green sea turtles in the last 5 years. Both species are endangered, the predator and his prey, so biologists are working through a more comprehensive investigation of this intriguing interaction.

Costa Rica Sun Tours invites your clients to visit Tortuguero National Park and with great luck they may see the elusive jaguar swimming in the canals during the green sea turtle nesting season from July to October each year. Guests can also help by joining the Sea Turtle Conservancy’s program to ‘Adopt-A-Turtle,’ which Costa Rica Sun Tours have supported since 2011. Other discoveries they can make on a visit include spotting more wildlife in Costa Rica’s ‘Little Amazon,’ exploring its endless canals, and walking nature trails. From there, it’s an incredibly scenic flight to Arenal where they can zipline through the rainforest canopy or explore the many activity choices in the ‘Adventure Capital of Costa Rica!’

A visit to Tortugero can easily be added on to any Costa Rica itinerary. Contact Costa Rica Sun Tours to learn more!
