Good news! The latest census reveals that the mountain gorilla population is on the rise. Classic Africa Safaris tells us that the new survey involved 12 teams covering more than 2,000km of difficult, forested terrain on the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and DRC. According to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, this latest survey reconfirms the mountain gorilla’s status as the only wild ape population whose numbers are known to be increasing. Research shows the increase is due to the type of intensive daily protection provided by local NGO’s and the park authorities of Rwanda, Uganda, and DRC, which are partially funded through tourism revenue.
