It turns out, rock ‘n roll really can save the world! The Palapa Society of Todos Santos started out with an after-school Bridge-to-English program run solely by volunteers. Its success caught the attention of part-time Todos Santos resident Peter Buck, guitarist for the rock band R.E.M. Peter started the Todos Santos Music Festival to raise money for the Palapa Society, and both the festival and The Palapa Society were featured in Rolling Stone; its ability to provide quality education for the children of Todos Santos expanded exponentially.

With the help of major donors Cindy and David Higgins, The Palapa Society has now evolved into a full learning center with a middle school, community library, adult English program, children’s art classes and a full staff. It still runs the highly popular Bridge-to-English program, where no child who wants to learn is ever turned away. Todos Santos Eco Adventures has been a proud corporate sponsor of The Palapa Society of Todos Santos for over a decade. TOSEA guests in Todos Santos can volunteer as English-language mentors with the Bridge-to-English program, where we can match any younger volunteers with local kids of a similar age.

TOSEA is also sponsoring a 2020-2021 calendar as a fundraiser for The Palapa Society. Each month will feature an art piece by a local Todos Santos artist – it will be really beautiful. They will sell for USD 20/each with the goal of raising USD 10,000 for The Palapa Society. If you would like to place orders in advance let us know and we’ll put you in touch with the right people.
