The Elephant Express trolley is a great safari experience for kids with plenty of space to stretch out and safe, elevated game viewing of the game-rich Ngamo plains. Plus with food and drinks aplenty, and a flush loo, Mom, Dad and the kiddos will have a great time. Land Rovers can’t off any of this, now can they?!

The underground “Look Up” blind near Camelthorn and Bomani Lodges is perfect for kids, allowing close but safe encounters with wildlife along with comfy seats, and a flush loo too!
Cultural encounters like walking to school or playing soccer with local kids are always huge hits for visitors and locals alike. The cultural component is a big focus and a source of pride for Imvelo Safari Lodges. Both Gorges and Camelthorn Lodges are built on community land and the local villagers are Imvelo’s partners in these ventures.

For teens over 12, mountain biking and walking safaris are can be done in Hwange as well as canoe safaris from Zambezi Sands River Camp.
And for those down times, kids also receive a Junior Safari companion book full of games and educational information on Hwange’s wildlife.

Recommended family accommodations for Imvelo Safari Lodges:

Family fun abounds at Imvelo Safari Lodges in Zimbabwe.

Zambezi Sands River Camp, Victoria Falls: Zam Sands tents are absolutely massive and can easily accommodate a family of four. The lounge area is replaced with two 3/4 beds for the kids. Each tent has a large private deck and plunge pool. A proper family unit is in the works for 2016, with two ensuite bedrooms connected by a common lounge.

Bomani Tented Camp, Hwange: Bomani has a family suite which can sleep four. It has AC, glass sliding doors and even satellite TV for Animal Planet or a nighttime movie. The Bomani “Spurwing” tents can also accommodate up to four comfortably but this is recommended for slightly older kids as the tents can be cold in the winter months and a bit wild and wooly with the animals just a stone’s throw away at the waterhole!

Camelthorn Lodge, Hwange: Camelthorn’s forest villas are designed with young families in mind. Built with stone walls with high ceilings, they are cool in the hot summer months and warm in the cold winter months. As the lodge is built in a beautiful woodland, there is less big game around the lodge and the solid stone walls often provide comfort for parents.  A proper family unit is in the works for 2016, with two ensuite bedrooms connected by a common lounge.

Nehimba Lodge, Hwange: Nehimba has two family units, each over 60sq m featuring a king sized bed and two ¾ beds separated by a privacy curtain. Nehimba also has pool.
