When we say ‘green season’ travel – we can think of no more appropriate destination than the jewel that is Pemba Island, off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean. Pemba Island (which translates to ‘the Green Island’) is home to the Manta Resort and its famed underwater room (check out this awesome new clip – we promise this is the view from the bedroom in the Indian Ocean – not an aquarium).
September – December tend to bring cooler weather, loss of leaves on the trees, rain, and ultimately snow for much of the US and Canada. But, coming off the rainy season, Pemba is extra vibrant during this spring season in the Southern Hemisphere. Everything is so lush and green! And, if the weather isn’t enough to woo your travelers we have a few other ways to sweeten the pot…..
It’s humpback whale season! At this time of year females return to these warmer waters to calve and nurse their young. It isn’t uncommon to see them playing from the stone terrace of the resort! And, although Manta does not offer a specific ‘whale safari’, from time to time you might hear a call to jump on a boat and go have a closer look!
For anyone with an interest in diving or snorkeling – this time of year is excellent! You can generally count on great visibility and calm waters. You can read up on Manta’s divemaster David on our blog here!
You’ll also find the best climate at this time of year. When temps begin to plummet in North America, they are ideal on Pemba – ranging from 77 F (25C) to 86 F (30C). You’ll enjoy steady weather and the best beach time with the prevailing breezes coming directly onto the beach from the mainland.
Top it all off with the fact that it is mango season – anyone with an affection for these flavorful fruits will love the way the incredible chefs at Manta blend the bounty into various meals.
We recommend at least three nights (but highly recommend four) to be added on to any East Africa safari. Barefoot luxury and wonderful experiences await! Contact sonya@kusinicollection for more information, rates, and access to the agent site!
