Wow, wow, wow! The South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi and Lake Kariba blew me away during my visit earlier this month! From South Luangwa’s stunning Chinzombo and the Lower Zambezi’s magical waterways, to the uber-luxe Matusadona houseboat and the sleeper hit Changa Camp on the shores of Lake Kariba, I am so excited to have experienced this wild corner of Africa.
Stay tuned for a complete trip report (and also one on my Garden Route tour pre-Indaba), but for now I wanted to share a few highlights from my explorations:
- Taking a dip in my suite’s pool at Chinzombo while overlooking the Luangwa River filled with hippos
- My FIRST Pel’s fishing owl sighting (South Luangwa)!
- Casting a line in the Zambezi, Castle Lager in hand, sun setting the clouds a-glow
- Sundowners on a sandy island in the middle of the Zambezi with elephants in the background
- Visiting the striking and artistic Chongwe House
- Spending the day cruising Lake Kariba on The Matusadona houseboat – not to mention great food and excellent wines!
- Dinner under a full moon on a pink sand beach at the edge of Lake Kariba while at Changa Camp
