Visiting the habituating mountain gorilla groups is an all-day activity
Classic Africa Safaris is pleased to announce a new gorilla habituation experience is being offered by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park! This new offering is designed to allow a small number of tourists to spend more time with mountain gorillas during their habituation. This is the first time UWA has allowed visitors to join the habituators during this process!
The gorilla habituation experience is different from a regular gorilla trek in several ways including group size, time spent with the gorillas and price.
A maximum group of 4 pax (versus the typical maximum of 8) participate in the habituation experience and groups spend four hours (!) with the gorillas versus one hour (excluding time spent trekking to and from the gorilla group). The cost is $1,500 per person per day (park fees included), and participants must be at least 15 years old. Remaining booking guidelines match those for normal gorilla trekking, including requiring that travelers have a clean bill of health before visiting the gorillas, permits must be paid in full at time of booking and no refunds.
The gorilla habituation experience starts one hour earlier than normal trekking (7:30 am instead of 8:30 am), and the briefing begins even earlier.
The habituation experience lasts all day, and can involve strenuous trekking at elevations of up to 7,500 feet above sea level. Conditions are often humid, and trails can be steep and rough. Weather can change in a flash, rendering trails slippery and muddy. Pax interested in the experience should have a reasonable level of fitness prior to their visit to Uganda and should bring along proper trekking gear including sturdy hiking boots.
The habituation experience is currently possible in Rushaga, located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Classic Africa Safaris recommends that your clients stay at stay at a proximate lodge since the activity requires a very early start. Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge, Gorilla Safari Lodge or Chameleon Hill all fit the bill. Email Phil with questions or for permit availability.
Finally, this opportunity may not last long and may never be offered again so tell your clients to seize this one-in-a-lifetime experience!
