Ultimate Safaris’ award-winning guides are expert naturalists and amazing storytellers, bringing Namibia’s flora, fauna, geography and history to life for travelers. An Ultimate naturalist guide turns a normal safari into a life enriching journey, creating a deeper understanding and appreciation for the incredible places and people visited. The guides are the link between travelers and the natural world, sharing their knowledge with wonder, enthusiasm and humor. What makes Ultimate’s guides the cream of the crop? Knowledge, experience and hard work! This includes their annual training, which is a collaborative experience for the guiding team – where they share expertise as well as new experiences.
For this year’s training, a group of 20 Ultimate Safaris guides including naturalist guides, camp guides and new guides spent a week in the Joint Management Area in Damaraland. Some of the highlights from 2024 included…
- Great one-on-one time with the Rhino Rangers and working on Ultimate’s messaging on the rhino tracking with guests. One morning the guides had a sighting of four rhinos in the same valley!
- A 12km hike to the Milberg engravings, an extension of the engravings that Ultimate guests visit from Camp Doros and Twyfelfontein. These are rarely visited due to their remote location.
- Time spent with elephants in the Huab River valley and working to ensure the best guest experience while observing the correct wildlife viewing protocols.
- Climbing and exploring Doros Crater with an emphasis on Namibia’s unique geology.
- Visiting the Doros rock art engravings.
- Road and route exploration including Gai Ais and the western area.
Some of the wildlife sightings enjoyed during the training included rhino, springbok, mountain zebra, meerkat, Cape fox, elephant and yellow mongoose.
